BENFICA LOOKS TO TURKEY FOR VLACHODIMOS REPLACEMENT?

The days of Benfica continuously having a solid keeper between the posts can go back years from the likes of Manuel Bento, Michel Preud’homme, Jan Oblak, and Ederson to name a few.

Benfica looks set to continue this tradition as it turns its attention to Turkey in the hopes of finding the future one.

According to reports from Italian sports page Calciomercato, Benfica has their sights set on 21-year-old current Fenerbahce starting keeper Berke Ozer whose contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the season.

Benfica is not alone in their pursuit of Ozer as Italian clubs Roma and AC Milan are also both interested in signing the Turkish U21 international.

With reports from Portugal that Atletico Madrid is in talks with Benfica about Vlachodimos joining the Spanish side this summer to compete with former Benfica starter Jan Oblak, it makes sense that Benfica would be looking for an established starter to take over Vlachodmimos’ role within the club while also keeping one eye on profiting from a potential future sale of said player.

Ozer took over the starting job at Fenerbahce this season after the club’s number one went down in October with an injury; and has appeared in fourteen games across all competitions while keeping five clean sheets.

Prior to this season, Ozer spent the past two seasons on loan with Belgian club KVC Westerlo, appearing in forty-six games.
